A massive impact in my life and career came in March 2001. I was awarded a Winston Churchill scholarship to study grassroots swimming programmes in Australia. I started my project in May 2001 with attendance at the “World Swim Coaches Conference” in Brisbane. Project Title

Following David Douglas – Botanist and Plant collector (1799-1834)

Year of Fellowship - 2001

Summary

David Douglas was the pre-eminent plant collector of his day, collecting in North America for the Horticultural Society. After gruelling expeditions in the Pacific Northwest he walked across the Continent to Hudson’s Bay and a Company ship to England. He died prematurely at only 35, in grisly circumstances on Hawaii.
