Project Title

Year of Fellowship - 1968

My fellowship was to the Indian Himalaya and afterwards to undertake a study throughout the sub-continent.
I led a party of four mountaineers(3 British, 1 Indian) who made the first ascentof Mukar Beh, a 5500metre peak in the Solang Himalaya of India.
Afterwards starting out from New Delhi I visited Rajastan, returned to Delhiand travelling by public transport I made my way southwards finishing in SriLanka. I visited several Educational and Cultural establishments en route.
On my return I undertook a lecture tour, including for the English Speaking Union. My autobiographical books, Rope Boy (Gollancz) 1970, and Mountain Lover (Crowood Press) 1990 cover these events.
